Computer Maintenance Reminders

As a service to our clients, we are going to post weekly reminders on computer maintenance.  We will remind you to do back ups, to defrag your hard drive, to update your software and to dust! The instructions you need to do each step will be posted on the blog also.

Email me to let me know you’d like to be on my reminder list or you can subscribe via the “Join our Newsletter” opt in. Subscribe both at your office and at your home. Have your family subscribe too so their laptops and PCs stay in good condition.

Automatic
Install anti-virus software on every computer you have. Set the software to update virus definitions daily. We recommend:
                               AVG Free Edition   Download software
Symantec-Norton Anti-Virus   Download software  ($39.99 for up to 3 computers)

Windows Live Update will update Windows and Office software.

Online Backup gives you protection against loss of data if something happens to your computer. You should still back up to a CD or DVD occasionally so you have historical back ups. But the online back up gives you the security of a daily back up and a secondary back up in case of emergency. We recommend:
                               www.mozy.com
                               www.iDrive.com

File and Registry clean up will protect your privacy by removing history of Internet browsing and will also make your computer run faster by keeping the Windows registry clean. We recommend:
                             CCleaner  Download software
This single program will: Disk Cleanup, Empty Outlook’s Deleted Items folder, Delete all cookies, Delete Internet History, Back up and clean up Windows Registry. You can set the program to run each time you turn on the computer for maximum efficiency.
